Tattoo Artist Interview – Caitryn Foster

AF Clothing has spent alot of time in Melbourne at Leviathan Tattoo the passed year or so, one of the artist’s there; Caitryn Foster has been on the rise for some-time now, we wanted to get an inside on her perspective on the industry and what draws her tattoo-artist strive.

When and how did you start your career as a tattoo artist?
I started just under 6 years ago at excessive art in Shepparton. I was hanging around the shop, helping out and I eventually got asked whether I wanted an apprenticeship.

What is your favorite tattoo on your body?
At the moment, its a set of postage stamps with portraits of my parents on their wedding day.

Who or what influences you?
In Art Mucha, James Jean, Vargas. In Tattoo Uncle Allan, Mike Moses, Emily Rose, Eckel, Owen Williams and of course the guys I work with.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not tattooing people?
I like to hang around home because I’m always at work, see friends and family, travel.

If you could describe your style in one word what would it be?

Who is your favourite tattoo artist of all time?
I don’t have an all time favourite but I really want to get tattooed off anyone in my influences list.

What has been your most rewarding point in your career ?
The move to Leviathan tattoo gallery in Richmond, Its made me a much better tattooer and the lifestyle change of being in Melbourne is more enjoyable.

What is your favorite part of being a tattoo artist?
being artistic everyday.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully growing and developing as an artist still.
